Hello

Having always had a deep seated desire to sing ever since I was a child, but suffering terribly with self confidence issues I never pursued it, apart from in my dreams. Much later in life, circumstances introduced me to some musical friends. Around 10 years ago I had to take early retirement from a job I loved. I decided, with the encouragement the aforementioned friends, to take up the guitar. That  led to the realisation that I would at some stage have to sing some of the songs we were learning to play. I decided l should have a trial singing lesson to see if there was a voice available before I committed myself any further. It turns out after all this time there had been a voice hiding in the shadows. As long as I live I will remember the music teacher smiling at me and saying "you have a lovely voice" I was overwhelmed with emotion......

 

Two years on a friend and I found ourselves standing, terrified, on stage at an open mic. Some months later, I can't remember how or when, I was persuaded to sing a couple of Frank Sinatra songs to backing tracks, the response was incredible and exhilarating, and as it turns out, life changing. The rest as they say, is history. Fast forward another 3 years or so, and I am gigging regularly in pubs, in retirement homes and at private parties with some 90 + swing songs in my repertoire, and loving every minute.

 I get so much pleasure from performing now, I wish I'd thrown off my inhibitions long ago. This new career is not about being the next big thing, or becoming a famous singing sensation. It's about giving joy and happy memories whilst fulfilling a dream.
